TENNESSEE IS NOW AN OFFICIAL CHAPTER OF ASFPM

TN AFPM is now  an official state chapter of ASFPM. Though this group primarily consists of Floodplain Administrators, ASFPM members and CFMs, we would like to encourage anyone working and/or living in the state of Tennessee with an interest in floodplain management to participate in this endeavor.   Becoming a chapter of ASFPM is actually a two step process; the first is to become an Association. Once the Association is formed several additional steps are required to apply for chapter status within ASFPM. A few of the requirements for each step are listed below. For additional information see the ASFPM website. See the ASFPM Welcome Chapter Letter.
Association Requirements
- Assemble a group of statewide individuals committed to sound floodplain management
- Publish a newsletter
- Hold at least one conference or workshop annually
- Adopted a constitution and bylaws
Chapter Requirements
- The promotion of the common interest in flood damage abatement
- Statewide membership representing no fewer than 25 or 10% of the communities in the state participating in the NFIPÂ
- A general election of officers
- Support of a variety of floodplain management activities
We have completed all requirements for chapter status. Our newsletters are in the third volume of publication. We adopted a constitution and bylaws for the operation of the association and incorporated as a Non-profit Corporation with the TN Secretary of State. At our kick-off meeting (January 20, 2010) we elected officers and officially got started.
Our goal is to support floodplain management activities and trainings throughout the state.  Please let us know your thoughts and ideas and help us get the word out!
